Rocks in the sunset by Lidija-Lolic Rocks in the sunset by Lidija-Lolic
Sometimes it's worth to risk a little to make a good photo. I was standing on one rock while shooting this, and the tripod was completely in the sea, with all three legs. I was afraid that I'll stand on something slippery and end in the sea together with my new camera. I wouldn't mind me being wet, but I'd like my new full frame toy to remain dry at least for some time :D :D

Since the coast is facing north I had to stay a little further from it so I don't have any houses in the photo, and the rocks were composed better this way, so I had to risk a bit.

I really love how many colors there are in this photo. The sky was really awesome and the green from the rocks in the shallow sea fits in just fine :)

Location: Arbanija, Island Ciovo, Croatia

Other information:
- HDR processed from 3 different exposures +/-2 stops
- ND400 filter

Thanks! Yes, I've tried for it not to look HDR. I don't like overdone photos. HDR should be helpful, not destroying the photo :)

Judging by your location and the body you're using, I would highly justify sacrificing your body in the name of saving the camera. ;P

GREAT shot though. One of the better HDRs I've seen in awhile.

Haha, that's right. An expensive thing, it would be a shame for it to get wet :D :D

I risked the same with my 30D and 20-35 lens last year in Hawaii...I got water on the lens, but at least I didn't dump the whole getup with my battery grip into the Pacific. :faint:

I don't like to risk that much, but it's necessary sometimes. :)

Amazing shoot! I love Croatia, we have some relatives in Zagreb and I spent almost every summer near the sea. :)

That's really nice to hear, I'm really glad you like it. Where do you usually go (besides Zagreb)?

Erhm... we usually go deifferent places. We have already visited Krk, Rab, Rowinj (I don't know how you write it...), Pula, Split, and some other places, but I don't remember all of them, because I was very young when we were there. :blushes: In the last summer we spent one day in Dubrovnik as a part of a big trip in Southern-Europe. I loved the city, my parents promised that we will go there once for a longer period. :D
What a shame, the sea was really cold, and I couldn't swim in it. Probably next time. :)

Well that's great! You have visited really many places.
But, if you like swimming then only summer months are to be considered for the vacation.

I agree with you. It's hard in a way to make it look like a non HDR. I hate exaggerated destroyed HDR photos with halos all around objects. It can be done much better.

Thanks for the compliments and support!

Do you prefer vertical shots?
Reply
:iconlidija-lolic:
Lidija-Lolic Featured By Owner May 4, 2009  Hobbyist Photographer
I cannot say I prefer them over horizontal, but I have more of them. Sometimes I can capture more with the vertical shot. This one in particular would be boring and unbalanced horizontal, as I would then have houses on the left, and empty sky and sea on the right.
I decide when I see the scenery, but it turns out that vertical shots are more often in my gallery.

Which orientation do you prefer?

I find myself shooting more verticals. It often offers more space for sky and foreground, and I suppose it's easy to put something punchy in the middle :)
